Can You Hear Me Now...Max?

YES HE CAN!!! Max had his surgery this morning to put his 4th set of tubes in his ears. The doctor said everything went well and he had even more fluid behind his ear drums than he did just last week at the office.

The doctor also looked down his throat into his air passage to see if there was anything causing his recurrent croup. He did not notice anything abnormal about that so it will be something he just has to grow out of...

During the exam though, he did notice, and showed me pictures of Max's vocal cords and the nodules on them. He asked me about Max's voice and I told him that it has always been husky/raspy sounding. He is recommending Max see a Speech Therapist to work on this (too bad we don't live closer to Shea-Shea!). It is something that can be done at school so we won't have to worry about setting up appoinments, etc.

Recovery time after the surgery was a complete change from the last 3 times! No screaming, thrashing, or trying to pull the i.v. out of his arm. They gave him a drug that helps keep them calm and relaxed and IT WORKED! He was sleeping when I got back into the recovery area and stayed that way for about 45 minutes until we had to wake him up. He drank a full cup of juice and didn't even fuss at all when the nurse took the i.v. out of his hand.

Imagine the compete opposite of all this and that it what it was like the last 3 times he has had this surgery done. He was hungry as a bear when we left the hospital since he wasn't allowed to eat anything since dinner last night and didn't have the surgery until about 10:30 this morning. He inhaled some Chick-fil-a and has been doing great since we got home.
